The Story of My Three Legged Dog

Hi everyone!

Some people have been pretty curious about my dog, who happens to have three legs (I’m looking at you K.A. 😉 ) so I wanted to share. I did a similar post about my cat, Alex, back in January (click here to read it). Small disclaimer: My dog does have three legs and I will be showing pictures of her. Just wanted to let you know :).

First, I’m going to start out with Allie’s full story.

Tia Golden 1

(Allie as a puppy) ^^Credits to the shelter for this picture

How we got her:

We had been looking for a dog for a little while. Finally, we found Allie. She and her sister had been rescued from a shelter where they were getting ready to be euthanized (killed). She was found with her sister in some woods by a police officer.

She and her sister were extremely scared and shy. They also had skin problems and were underweight. She was not really the kind of puppy you’d want to bring home, but we decided to anyway. (Side note: We couldn’t adopt her sister because she had more skin problems and wasn’t healthy enough)

What it's like having a three legged dog

(Allie today)

The first few days we had Allie she refused to eat anything or use the bathroom. She didn’t really act like a normal puppy. She didn’t run around or play. I remember holding her in my arms as she curled up in a ball. With love and help from the cat and us, Allie became a normal dog. She still is a little skittish (probably because of abuse) but she is otherwise just like any other dog.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

(Allie on her lead)

How Allie became three-legged:

Allie had a habit of chasing after animals (squirrels, rabbits, deer, etc.). She uses a long leash thing that we clip to her collar because our backyard is not fenced in and we have woods behind it. The collar she had at the time wasn’t very strong.

It was sometime in December (2013) that my mom let Allie out like normal. Later, I went outside to get Allie. She wasn’t there. We called her and she didn’t come (which she usually would after 15-20 minutes). My mom called neighbors and hadn’t seen her either. So we decided to wait, since she always came back on her own.

What it's like having a three legged dog

(Allie this past winter)

I remember eating dinner when we got a call. My mom didn’t recognize the number so she didn’t pick it up. Over the answering machine we heard an automated message saying our dog had been found and was at the nearby animal hospital. My mom went to call the people back while my brother and I continued eating.

I guess the person told my mom that Allie had been hit by a car. They were going to take her to another animal hospital and they would call my parents if she had internal bleeding (in that case she would die).

What it's like having a three legged dog

(Allie in the snow this past winter)

She survived with little damage but her one leg hung loosely at her side. We tried physical therapy but nothing worked. So we had to have it amputated. She lost her front left leg but is otherwise like any normal dog and can still run faster than other dogs I know.

The only reason she survived is because someone put her in their car and drove her to a local animal hospital. The vet said she probably would have been in too much shock to survive much longer without intervention. We are so thankful for whoever saved her, though we will never know who it is (security reasons).

What it's like having a three legged dog

(Allie in her favorite chair)

Ok, now onto some facts about Allie.

Breed: We aren’t exactly sure, but probably Lab, chow (she has a purple tongue), and German Shepard.

Age: 4

Birthday: Summer time was the vets estimate (No one was exactly sure).

Fun Fact: Her name was originally Tia but we changed it to Allie because we liked it and it sounded a lot like Alex’s 🙂

Toy: The cat (she is not always the nicest to him).

Favorite place to sleep: Her own couch or outside.

Favorite treat: Raw hide (a type of bone/treat thing) or any kind of meat.

Do you have any pets? If you don’t have pets, which kind would you like if you could have one? I’d love to hear your answers in the comments.

Also, what did you think about this post? Would you like to see another similar one about my chickens?

See ya soon!

Goodbye…..Temeporarly

Haha! Did I scare you? No, I’m not quitting blogging, but I have some news to share. Just keep reading to find out.

This year I have the privilege of going on a missions trip. In case you don’t know, a mission trip is where you go somewhere and help people less fortunate and tell them about the amazing thing that God did for us when he sent Jesus to die for our sins.

On my trip we will be taking a VBS (Vacation Bible School) to a small town that doesn’t have summer camps or anything. We are the highlight of the kids summer. I can’t wait to see how God uses me and my team! I get to teach crafts to the kids and help them make their own.

I will be sure to take lots of pictures (since I can bring my camera), but we leave all other electronics at home. So I will not have access to my blog, email, or anything for 9 days, which I’m actually looking forward to.

I will be trying to schedule a few posts while I’m gone but I won’t be able to moderate comments or respond until after I get back. I will be away on my blogaversary so I won’t be posting about that until after (but if we got to 100 followers while I am away that would be snazzy 😉

I think that’s it for my little life update. Talk to you when I get back 😉

*waves*

Bye!!

My Experince: Private School vs. Homeschool

Last week, I had the opportunity to go to a private school. I am homeschooled and I have been my whole life. I was completely opposed to the idea at first because I didn’t know anyone at the school and didn’t want to dive into something new. I finally decided to go and I’m really glad I went now. As soon as we arrived I relaxed, everyone was amazing, kind, and helpful. I shadowed a girl who I didn’t know at all, yet she included me and made me feel welcome. They took me on a tour and then I went around with this girl and sat in on her classes. I even got to sit in on band practice and have lunch there. I want to give a little comparison to the differences between my homeschooling experience and my experience visiting this school. So let’s start.

————————————————————————

Time

At this school if you aren’t in home room by 8 am you are tardy. I’d be fine with waking up and getting to school that early but I do like the fact with homeschooling that if I have a busy weekend and I’m tired I can sleep in on Monday and not worry about it (for me sleeping in is until about 8:30). I also like that I’m not stuck every week day (except for off days and summer) in a class room for seven hours a day. I love the flexibility I can have with homeschooling.

Dress code

At this school there is a dress code. Khakis, black slacks, or skirts and a polo shirts with the schools logo. I’m fine with dress codes, but I like that at home if I’m having a lazy day I can wear sweatpants and be comfy. I also like the fact that I can show my own style in the clothes I wear.

Teachers

In school you usually have different teachers for every subject (sometimes the same one for a few classes) while with home schooling you have yourself, your mom, sometimes the computer, and coop teachers (if you go to a coop) I think it is nice to have a variety of teachers who specialize in certain subjects. That is one of the benefits to public/private school.

Homework

All my school is homework! I don’t sit in a class all day just to go home and do more work I get it done all at once. Now, the school I shadowed at feels that children should have homework but not so much so that there isn’t time for extracurricular activities. I do like that aspect but I’m happy not to have homework at all.

Extra-Curricular Activities

If you go to a school building you usually will have opportunities to play sports for that school and do band, art, acting, etc. With home school you have to find other programs such as public pools and gyms, homeschooling programs, etc.

Lunch/Cafeteria

In home school you eat lunch at home(pretty self-explanatory) in school you have the option to buy food prepared at the school or bring your own. When I shadowed they gave me a free lunch pass that let me get whatever from the cafeteria. It was an interesting experience and I’m sure I looked like I had no clue what I was doing XD

The food was good, better than all the rumors say and they had AMAZING ice cream.

Gym

In school you have gym class where you learn to play different sports and get exercise. In home school you have to be more conscientious to exercise (unless you generally like to be outside or play sports) I do sports to stay in shape, make friends, and also just for fun. In a school situation it is easier to  be a part of these things.

Social Aspects

In school you are around and have to interact with other people everyday. Meanwhile, homeschooling it is different for everyone. Some people go to an umbrella school everyday and some see people only a few times a week. My family is still extremely busy even though we home school. I interact with other people and make friends just the same way kids do. I may be biased about it, but I don’t feel that I’m missing out on anything, by not seeing my friends every single.

Education/Independence

In school you are mainly taught by a teacher and they show you how to do most of your work. Ususally, you can be in honors but you still are learning at the same pace as everyone else. With homeschooling you can be further along in math. It’s more customized for you. You can also learn from whatever beliefs you want. You also learn to teach yourself.

Well there it is, I’ve just laid out my whole experience with private school and the contrast between them. That was actually a lot of work. What did you think of this kind of post? I’m trying to go out of my normal posting I’m trying some new type of posts. Any suggestions? Leave them below.

What kind of schooling do you have? Let me know in the comments. Talk to you soon!

This is what happened. Also, sorry about the bad picture quality.

{Great Wolf Lodge} Travel Diary

I went on vacation!! My parents took my brothers on a surprise two-day trip to Great Wolf Lodge a few weeks ago. I had so much fun and decided to share my adventures with you!! If you don’t know what Great Wolf Lodge is it is an indoor water park and lodge. Let me show you the pictures now!

————————————————————————

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This first picture is of a random corner of a light, which I thought looked cool XD

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here is the tiny closet coat hanger area and our little safe.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This is the wallpaper in both bathrooms. The whole suite was very cabin themed.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here are the cute little lotions and soaps. They smelled good!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Yummy food in the mini fridge. We didn’t buy our food there, my mom brought all our food with us. We had grapes, yogurt, salad, cream cheese, and lots of other deliciousness:)

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here are the cups and coffee. It looked cute and I couldn’t refuse a picture.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here are two of the beds. The one with the dolls is mine and the other one is my brothers’.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This is the fireplace and television. We didn’t end up using the fireplace because it was super warm. On Wednesday I watched a Full House rerun on one of the TVs. I fell in love and I came home and started watching Fuller House. I finished the season now 😦

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This is the living  room where we ate and had devotions.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here is our cute little balcony. On Tuesday it was cold enough to keep our water and juice outside, but on Wednesday it was 69 degrees!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We were on the highest floor, but that didn’t bother me. Guess what? While we were there, there was a tornado warning. (Two theres next to each other. Is that grammatical??) It was a bit scary. Fortunately, nothing happened and God protected us.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here are the steps to the loft.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This is the loft. My parents slept here, it looks cozy.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

There was a little sink alcove separated from the toilet.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here is the view from the loft. The awesome part is that we were upgraded for free! We just had a normal room, but since we came on an off week (when not many people were here) they upgraded us to the loft room, which would have been more money.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We got these really cute wolf ears when we checked in. I love mine!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We visited the exercising room Tuesday night. They had lots of other stuff to do, like a spa and arcade but we just went to the water park.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Welcome to Great Wolf Lodge Water Park! They have a giant bucket that fills up and spills every ten minutes or so. It is a blast to be right in the water there.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here is the play area without a ton of water spilling. There were tons of things to do in the play set.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This is the very pretty wave pool.

Story time:

As you know there was a tornado when we went. It was Wednesday night (the night of  the tornado) and all of a sudden all the fire alarms started to go off in the whole building. It was very loud. We stated to head toward the doors that sectioned the hotel apart from the water park. Nobody knew why the alarms were going off, but the staff said everyone needed to stay inside the water park. So we were stuck inside. All the slides and pools were still open, so my family started going on the rides.

I had no clue how long we would be there so I plopped down and felt the wave wash over me. It was very calming and relaxing. A few minutes later the alarms stopped and we could leave. Apparently, a pipe had burst and had caused a few inches of water to spread all over the floor of the lobby. Firemen came and cleaned everything up. Interesting fact: In the case of a fire being in the water park was the safest.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here is the wave pool with actually waves! I felt like I was at a very clean and clear beach. I tried to body surf-that didn’t really wok out, though.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here is an overview of the two tiny slides and water center play area.

The blue slide pictured is my second favorite slide. When you get in it you are closed in for a little bit and then it opens up and the top comes of and you can somewhat see the water park.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

There were a lot of steps! It was 90 steps to the two highest ones. There was a family ride where the whole family can fit in the tube and you go down together. They also had double and single tubes for the smaller slides.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This is the coolest waterside!! I hate rollercoasters but this was really fun. *Spoiler* There is a drop but it wasn’t that bad. You fall into this giant funnel (shown above) and you slide up the walls in a tube. It holds a maximum of four people per tube.

Story time:

As I said, I hate rollercoasters, drops, loops, etc. My family forced me to go on this ride the first time (I loved it after that). So we were standing in line and I was protesting going on it. The people before us where two teenage boys. They went down and they started screaming hysterically (like girly high-pitched screams) and I was like no no, I’m not going! Well, I did anyway and had a blast. At the bottom my mom, who hadn’t gone, said she had talked to the boys in front of us. She said they came here a lot and that they had screamed really loud just to scare me. I didn’t see them after that. It was very funny, though.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here is the wave simulator. It was cool, but hard to do and a bit intimidating.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

If your tall like me….well it makes obstacle courses like these fun and very challenging. I will admit I fell off multiple times.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Here is a very bad picture of the lazy river. It was fun to go around and you could come off one of the slides and just float right into the lazy river.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This is the one and only doll picture I have. I brought my dolls hoping to get a lot of pictures and took one XD #blogginggoals

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

This was my breakfast on our last day. I had Trader Joe’s yogurt and granola. Along with my daily banana and my dad bought us donuts! (I should become a food blogger right? I’m being sarcastic:)

————————————————————————

What did you think of this type of post? I loved sharing my trip with all of you 😉 I had so much fun and I’m so thankful I got to go on this vacation.

Have you ever been to an indoor water park? Or a Great Wolf Lodge? If so, which one?

I hope you all liked this post. Thanks for reading!

{Posts Of Old #1}

You know how many people have been doing these posts? I love them!! So I thought I’d show you a post I wrote in October of 2014. (Excuse the blurry pictures. We can all see my improvements.) Feel free to leave a comment on that post and tell me if you try out the hairstyle. (Here is a link back to the original post) Let’s get started.

————————————————————————

Hi! Here is a fishtail braids tutorial that was requested by DOLLDIYs (Now Flourishing by Restful falls) and I have wanted to do for a while but haven’t had the chance. By the way some of the pictures might be blurry, gritty or of different quality’s because my camera has been doing weird thing. Anyways(,) Enjoy!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

You will need: a spray bottle, a doll hair brush, two elastics (certain styles will require more) and a toothbrush

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

First split the dolls hair in half. You might want to tie back the one side in a low pony tail so that the other hair doesn’t get in the way.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Next split that hair into two sections but don’t tie it off.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Take a small section from the very front of the outer side and cross it to the inner section then take the most inner section from the inner side and cross it over. This works best if you do it tiny and tight.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Keep doing this till you get to the end of the hair.

image

Tie off with an elastic or scrunci at the bottom and repeat on the other side.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Some variations are: add a braid to one piece, stop at the ear with braid for a cool look or a single fishtail down the back.

Here are photos of Bethany in her finished look.

Jessica’s POV

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

My brain is. unicorns… Yup, this is me Jessica (the one in the cute pink shirt) when I’m attempting to wake up in the morning. Until I drink about two cups of water, I can’t function and my brain is basically full of unicorns. And candy. Lots and lots of candy.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES
*This is my sister Bailey, she is the brainiac of the family and also gets crazy bed head*

“Good morning everybody,” Bailey said yawning, “Does anybody know what day it is today?”

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

All of a sudden, my newest sister Brooklyn, ran into the room shouting, “HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!!” We all stood there in silence until my Twin said,

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

“It Febuary 2nd….. Valentine’s day is two weeks away. Today is just an average Tuesday.”

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

“Incorrect!” I said, “It’s actually, drum roll please, Groundhog day!”

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

“Oh, I knew that!”

I inetrrputed her, “Groundhog Day is something we do on Febuary 2nd. The folklore is that if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, then spring will come early. If it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and the winter weather will continue for another month and a half.Info via

“Wow, that’s cool Jessica, but if you keep blabbing we are going to be late.”

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

“At school they decided we needed to do the whole traditional groundhog ceremony.”

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Isn’t he adorable? He really liked all the attention he got. He ended up seeing his shadow so… I guess we have six more weeks of winter.

Did you like my commentary (which included unicorns and candy)? If you did comment below. If this post gets good veiws maybe mom will let me do another post. I hope everybody had an amazing day.

Happy Groundhog Day!
