As you all probably know, I haven’t posted in almost three weeks. The main reason and the one I’m going to be talking about in this post of why I haven’t been posting is, I don’t like the posts I’m writing.
When I first created americangirlguide, a little over two years ago I wanted it to be about American Girl Dolls. If you look back on my posts from this past year less than half my posts were doll related. If I think about it, yes, I had fun writing the doll ones, but I liked writing the non-doll posts even more.
When I started american girl guide I did it to write about something I liked. I’ve learned so much over the past two years and have realized how much I like writing and photography. But I’ve also come to the conclusion that…. Dolls aren’t my main hobby/thing I enjoy doing. I still think they are cool, but I just don’t enjoy them like I used to.
This post isn’t really about me not liking dolls, it’s more that my main interest has changed. If you look at my posts in the past year I don’t know what category you’d put them in, maybe lifestyle? but they aren’t doll related and that’s why I don’t want to keep posting under americangirlguide when that’s not really what this blog is about.
I’ve been thinking for a while about completely changing the direction of my site and making it into a lifestyle site or making a new blog where I can post about the kind of posts I like. I haven’t reached a decision yet and so I’m asking for your help/ suggestions.
What do you think I should do? I know a lot of you have multiple blogs and I don’t think I could keep that up, yet I don’t want to wipe americangirlguide off the surface of the earth. I’m quite torn on what to do. So, if you have any suggestions please leave them in the comments! Thanks for putting up with this little word spit. I’ll be updating you soon on my decision and what happens next with my blog.
Two little things I want to mention before I end this already long post,
1. This doesn’t mean I won’t be posting about dolls at all, that just won’t be the main focus of the blog.
2. I’m definitely not quitting blogging, I’m just readjusting my blog to fit me.

I totally get that. Our hobbies and interests change as we get older and that’s totally okay 🙂
I think your blog is fine just doing what you’re doing. I would suggest a separate blog, but I feel like a lot of times when people have one blog for dolls and another for whatever, they usually end up dropping the doll blog (or quitting all together.) So I think that you should just keep going as you are. Don’t make a new blog, hold onto this one. You can post about dolls whenever you like, but just have your main focus on your new main interests 🙂

Yes, I think that is a good idea. I don’t think you even have to change your blog name, because you ARE an American girl; right? (Unless you’re British or something :P) So it still sort of fits! 🙂

Hmm…that’s hard. But I DO know what you mean. In fact, just a day ago, I had the same exact thing (almost) happen!! I found that I was writing more and more…on my ANIMAL blog…and I did solve it by just making another blog! Sooo…that’s what I would reccommend…but you could just change the title of this blog? Hmmm…yeah.

I totally understand. I recently stopped doing dolls and I am doing lifestyle and most posts are about God. I’ve really enjoyed the change in my blog. So…what do you think you’ll do? 🙂
Well I’m not sure yet, but I’m thinking of changing the name of my blog and not creating a new one.

That’s completely understandable! Maybe you could start a new blog like Hayley did, but still leave this one up. The new blog could be focused on everything, from life to dolls. 🙂

I had the same problem- I still loved dolls but didn’t know where to post my writing and photography. I created a new blog, but what might work better for you is changing this one to have a different title and URL. Make it a lifestyle blog!

I completely get that as a blog reader I’ve seen and am still seeing MANY bloggers whos main focus used to be dolls but is now more of photography and so on and so on. It’s fine there’s nothing wrong with this des icing at all I respect you 100% because I like both types of blogs anyways so I’ll always stay followed. P.S.
